The Different Types of Massage Therapy: Discover The Right Fit For You
Massage is an almost universally loved method of treatment and relaxation. There are many different types of massage. In this post, we’ll examine some of the most common types, and what they are effective for.

Swedish Massage
Swedish massage involves long strokes, kneading and circular movements on the shallowest layer of muscles. This is designed to promote relaxation and stimulate circulation

Deep Tissue Massage
Deep tissue massage is similar to Swedish massage but targets a deeper layer of muscles. The therapist may apply pressure using hands, fingers or elbows in order to improve mobility and decrease muscle tension.

Remedial Massage
Remedial massage is designed as a therapeutic method of massage. Often the massage will be targeted towards specific areas of the body that may be injured or tight. Remedial massage is not so much about relaxation, but more concerned with the provision of healing.

Sports Massage
Sports massage is designed for people who perform physical activity. It can be targeted at certain muscle groups or performed on the whole body. It employs a combination of massage techniques and stretching to assist injured or tight muscles

Hot Stone Massage
Hot stone massage utilises heated stones (usually made of basalt) on the skin to promote relaxation and circulation. The therapist may perform traditional massage techniques with the stones. As well as being good for muscle relaxation, hot stone massage can be effective in reducing stress, anxiety and promoting overall wellbeing.

Thai Massage
This ancient type of massage utilises stretching and movement combined with pressure applied by the therapist. It is often performed on a mat on the floor. It can be quite intense, and is good for relieving muscle tension, improving flexibility and stress relief.
